Metabolism and distribution of autologous and homologous albumin-I131 in the dog

Y. Takeda 1

1 McGill University Medical Clinic, Montreal General Hospital, Montreal, Canada

Using autologous albumin labeled with I131, studies of the metabolism and distribution of plasma albumin were made in 11 healthy dogs maintained in nutritional balance. The average value for the transcapillary transport of plasma albumin (k1x) was 2.59 g/day kg; for catabolic rate of plasma albumin (k3x), 0.183 g/day kg; for the extravascular albumin (y), 1.48 g/kg; and for the intravascular albumin (x), 1.47 g/kg. The estimates of the foregoing with homologous albumin-I131 did not significantly differ. Results are also reported of the passage time distribution of the albumin flux through the interstitial fluids.

Key Words: metabolism and distribution of canine albumin
