Influence of ketone bodies on fibrinogen, thrombocytes, and fibrinolysin activity in rabbits

D. M. Brahmankar 1 and M. C. Nath 1

1 University Department of Biochemistry, Nagpur, India

The elevation of plasma fibrinogen, thrombocytes with concomitant depletion of plasma fibrinolysin activity was observed in animals treated with the sodium salts of ketone bodies (acetoacetate and ß-hydroxybutyrate) for 4, 8, and 12 weeks. While malonate was given together with acetoacetate and ß-hydroxybutyrate the changes were more pronounced. The results indicated the possible influence of disturbance in metabolism of ketone bodies in the development of thrombosis.
