Response of motor unit of gastrocnemius of the rat to repetitive stimuli

Simeon Locke 1

1 Neurological Unit, Boston City Hospital; and Department of Neurology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts

The response of the action potential of the single motor unit of the gastrocnemius of the rat to trains of stimuli delivered to a ventral root filament was studied in ten animals. Fractionation of the action potential of the unit into component subunits occurred with trains of stimuli having less than a 5-msec stimulus interval. The anatomical nature of the subunit is not known.
