1 Institute of Human Nutrition, Praha, Czechoslovakia

Effects of chlortetracycline (CTC) and neomycin on the rate of lipolysis and alimentary lipemia in rats, after the introduction of 1 ml of olive oil or a suspension of 1/10 of the ld50 doses of antibiotics in oil, were determined after 1 and 3 hr. Presence of CTC or neomycin did not affect the rate of gastric emptying. A similar finding was obtained concerning the amount of fat left in the intestine after these periods. In the presence of CTC the lipolysis was significantly inhibited after 1 as well as after 3 hr; alimentary lipemia was slowed down in the 1st hr, and after 3 hr a return to normal levels was achieved. Administration of neomycin did not influence the rate of lipolysis, but was followed by a lower level of alimentary lipemia not only after 1 hr but also after 3 hr.
