Lymphatic transport of selected nitrofuran derivatives in the dog

James A. Buzard 1, John D. Conklin 1, and Robert H. Buller 1

1 Biochemistry and Pharmacology Sections, Eaton Laboratories Division, The Norwich Pharmacal Company, Norwich, New York

By comparing drug concentrations in dog plasma and thoracic duct lymph, it has been shown that orally or intravenously administered nitrofuran derivatives cross the blood-lymph barrier and are transported in the lymphatic circulation. Investigation of a group of nitrofurans with widely differing physical properties indicates that the extent of plasma binding is a major factor in determining the apparent rate of transfer of these drugs to the lymph.
