Acute acidosis was induced in male albino rats by intraperitoneal dialysis against ammonium chloride. The concentration of sodium in the inorganic phase of bone was measured at short intervals following the procedure to determine the rate and extent of change. Bone sodium loss was immediate in onset, linear in rate and complete in 4 hours. The amount released was 28% of the original total. The equations Na = 157 10 T (when Na = mEq/kg fresh bone and T = hours after dialysis) and log Na = 2.1932 0.0318 T expressed the observed changes equally well.
