The incorporation of C14 from labeled glucose, carboxylic acids and bicarbonate into the protein of isolated rat diaphragm was enhanced by adrenalectomy and decreased by cortisone treatment. The incorporation of radioactivity from pyruvate-3-C14 into the protein of diaphragms from adrenalectomized rats was not appreciably altered by a 20-fold change in pyruvate concentration. Incorporation of C14 from glucose-1-C14 and from glucose-6-C14 was the same, as was the magnitude of the increase after adrenalectomy.
