The hyperferremia that developed in rats after a single dose of 75225 r of total-body X-irradiation occurred in two distinct phases. A transient rise in plasma iron occurred within the first 24 hours after irradiation, and a more prolonged elevation took place during the 2nd week after exposure. The concentration of plasma iron in normal rats varied from day to day and in relation to the hour of sampling.
