Factors Influencing the Gastric Secretion of Dyes

Francis E. Ray 1 and Patricia Pease 1

1 From the Cancer Research Laboratory, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida

Gastric secretion of six dyes, thionin, Nile blue A, pyronine B, toluidine blue, methylene green and neutral violet was studied in guinea pigs. The highest values are given by neutral violet; the lowest by thionin. The degree of secretion is related to the basicity of the dye, provided that the dye is secreted in its original form. There is a possibility that the diffusion coefficient may be of significance.
