The absorption of acetic acid from the pylorus-ligated rat stomach in 6 hours showed a typical log-dose response, with 2.0 mm being absorbed at the highest level administered. Under the same conditions, the amount of glycerol absorbed reached and maintained a constant level approximating 0.4 mm. The gastric contents of rats consuming a diet containing 30% of distilled, saturated, partially acetylated monoglycerides contained an average of 5.6 mg (0.09 mm) of free acetic acid/rat.
