Effect of in Vitro Administration of Thyroxine and Triiodothyronine on Surviving Liver Slices

A. Kurt Weiss 1

1 From the Department of Physiology, University of Miami School of Medicine and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Miami, Florida

Liver slices from frog, turtle, guinea pig, greyhound and man were incubated in Krebs-Ringer-Phosphate medium and their oxygen uptake determined manometrically. The addition of l-thyroxine or l-triiodothyronine to the suspension medium did not produce an increased oxygen consumption.
